2011 Women's History Month Program
Women’s History Month had a 2 part program. The breakfast was the 1st part which was a success and the award program was the 2nd part. Both programs were filled with much information about our women in our community and our history.
The Breakfast was the 1st part of the program which was located at the New Covenant of Grace Ministries on March 19, 2011. Many Representatives from different women’s organizations were in attendance and gave brief description on their work along with networking with each other.
The Award Program was the 2nd part of the Women’s History Month events. The program was held at the Hopkinsville Community College Auditorium on March 24, 2011. The Kentucky New Era put out a great article regarding the Award Program.
TITLE : OUR HISTORY IS OUR STRENGTH!!!
The Community Award was named after Sherry Jeffers, Hopkinsville’s first female mayor. The Overcoming Challenges Award was named after Rachel Davis Hopkins who, though visually impaired, served hundreds of women as a UK extension agent and. The Youth Contribution Award was named after Jennie Knight Baker, founder of the Aaron McNeil House.
The Fannie Bronson Postell Woman of the Year Award recognized a woman who has helped advance civil and/or human rights in the community and one who has provided opportunities for recognition of women and minorities.
