Community Resource Block Party
August 26, 2009
The YMCA and Challenge House Incorporated will be hosting the first Community Resource Block Party on September 19th, 2009! The event will be held from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club parking lot. We anticipate 300 children and parents at the event.
Many churches and agencies want to get involved in outreach efforts but either do not know how or do not have a direct link to their target populations. The block party is a platform that will allow both agencies and churches alike to meet the needs of those less fortunate in our community.
As the YMCA Outreach Director (for the past five years) I’ve learned that churches and agencies have great programs (many which are free), that would benefit those in need however; the target population for the services are unaware of services/programs. This event will empower community members and open the door for future partnering between agencies, churches and the Challenge Houses.
During the Community Resource Block Party event, participants will be made aware of programs, services offered in Hopkinsville and the surrounding areas; youth will also have the opportunity to compete in a Basketball tournament, Flag football and Archery.
To make this year’s event a success we need your help. Sponsorships are $150.00 and will cover the expenses of games, prizes, goodie bags and bouncers.
We are also looking for agencies and churches to set up booths to educate the children, parents and youth ministries to perform praise dances, music or help serve at the event. We will also have an “out of town” musical guest and speaker at the event who will deliver a message of hope and purity.
If you are interested in helping the YMCA “build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities” by linking them to all we have to offer, please complete the enclosed form.
Sincerely,
Aida Vega
Outreach Director
