A retired educator of 31 years, Don Ahart holds a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and 30 hours above Master’s in Administration/Supervision from Murray State University. He has resided in Ward 3 for 35 of the 58 years he has called Hopkinsville home. During that time, Councilman Ahart has been active in the community as lifetime member and lieutenant governor of Optimist International, as member and president of the Hopkinsville Optimist Club, and through service to the Youth League as a parent, coach, board member, vice president, and advisor to the board.
Councilman Ahart has served on City Council since 2009 and as Mayor Pro Tem for two years. During his tenure, he has served as Committee of the Whole chairman and held positions on the Heritage Christian Academy Board of Directors, Hopkinsville Cable Television Oversight Authority, Surface and Stormwater Utility, Senior Citizens Center Board, Economic Development Council, Tax Increment Finance Authority, Ambulance Board, Chamber of Commerce Board, and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program Board.
He is a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Edgewood Baptist Church. He is married to retired educator Sandy Ahart, with whom he has two daughters, Tammi and Kelley, and four grandchildren.
