Councilman Ann Cherry was elected to serve the citizens of Hopkinsville in November 2008, and re-elected in 2010, and 2012, to present. In addition to her City Council responsibilities, Ann has served as a Board member on Hopkinsville/Christian County Airport Board, Hopkinsville Human Relations Commission, Pennyroyal Area Museum Board, Christian County A. W. Watts Senior Citizens Center Board, Westwood Senior Homes Board, and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Advisory Council.
Ann retired from BellSouth/AT&T with 31 years of service in 2007. During her tenure at AT&T, she served as Project Leader for the installation of the telecommunications switching system presently serving Hopkinsville today, as well as many other cities throughout western Kentucky. She is a summa cum laude graduate from Murray State University with a Master’s degree in Telecommunication Systems Management in where she received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in her degree field. Ann was also involved in advanced telecommunications research technology in which she authored award winning technical publications that are still being cited both nationally and internationally in technology publications today. Additionally, she developed and authored technical procedural practices during her career at BellSouth/AT&T that were incorporated into the Bell System Technical Library manuals which are utilized by field technicians throughout the corporation.
Ann’s husband of 31 years is Mike Cherry, also retired from AT&T. They have a son, John, and one grandson, who they are very proud of and look forward to enjoying more time with in their retirement years.
