H-Town to H-Town Hurricane Relief
Mayor Carter Hendricks is asking local businesses, churches, trucking lines and organizations to serve as donation drop off locations and transportation assistance coordinating the local relief initiative. To participate, contact Sherria Hester, local hurricane relief coordinator, at 270-887-4290 or email email@example.com.
Several partners have already signed on to serve as drop off locations from September 6-8, including Pennyrile Arts Council at the L&N Depot (8:30 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.), Car Spa LLC at 712 N. Main St. (8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m.), The Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Skyline Animal Clinic (7:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m.), Furry Friends pet grooming (7:30 a.m. till noon). More locations will be announced as they are available.
At this time, monetary donations to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army are immediate ways to assist. To donate $10 to the Red Cross, text “HARVEY” to 90999. To donate to the Salvation Army, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or visit www.helpsalvationarmy.org.
The network of local relief partners will be announced as they volunteer on area media outlets and via Facebook at facebook.com/hopkinsvilleharveyrelief, as well as on the City of Hopkinsville website and the Parks and Recreation website.
Donation items in need are male and female hygiene products, diapers, non-perishable food, blankets, cots, pet food/supplies and infant-to-adult-size new or gently used clothing.
“The number one way to help immediately is to send monetary donations to organizations geared toward relief aid, like the Red Cross or Salvation Army,” Hester said. “We are seeking area transportation partners to help deliver the donated goods to Houston within the next few weeks.”
