Downtown Stroll, Sip & Shop and Fall Fest on 6th Street Set for October 20th
“We are so excited to be bringing another Stroll, Sip & Shop event to the Downtown Renaissance District and we are even more excited to be partnering with the merchants along 6th Street and throughout the surrounding downtown area,” stated Holly Boggess.
On Saturday, October 20th , the inaugural Fall Fest on 6th Street will launch at 12 PM. The festival will run until 5 PM and will feature a number of activities to entertain and entice residents of all ages.
In partnership with the Fall Fest, Griffin’s Studio will be hosting an open studio in which you can paint a canvas fall scene of your choice. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 270.874.2028. The cost is $10 per person.
Additionally, the Hopkinsville Art Guild will be hosting a photography contest to offer area photographers an opportunity to capture images of the Downtown Renaissance District of Hopkinsville. Registration is required and the event begins promptly at 1:30 PM. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 photographs. The contest is sponsored by Flynn Enterprises and Henderson Realty Investors.
Merchants will be extending their hours and offering deep discounts along with gift card drawings. The Downtown Renaissance District Program will be distributing free Downtown Stroll, Sip & Shop canvas bags that feature an image of 6 th Street. There will be free face painting and caricature art for participants along with sidewalk chalk, popcorn, Grace & Mercy Fudge, live music and spirits from MB Roland and Casey Jones Distilleries.
The Division of Parks & Recreation is sponsoring this Saturday’s entertainment and it will be provided by popular Music City favorites Fats Kaplin and The Gang featuring Kristi Rose. They will perform 2 hour-long sets beginning at 1:00 & 2:45 PM. Fats Kaplin is one of America’s most original instrumental composers and the premier modern interpreter of string band blues, folk, country and world music. His music, full of mystery and life’s rough edge is the equivalent of art’s “Modern American Primitivism.” He has been called upon to tour and record with hundreds of artists – Jack White, John Prine, Buddy Miller, Elvis Costello, Beck, Miranda Lambert (Pistol Annies) “Nashville” in Concert and countless others.
His wife, Kristi Rose is a powerful and evocative singer and writer. Her musical journey has taken her from country church choir, to the New York City cow-punk scene, where she founded the seminal band “Kristi Rose and the Midnight Walkers,” to touring around the world, to her current status as the favored muse and interpreter of numerous composers and lyricists.
Though they remain firmly rooted in the Americana world, their stage presence evokes memories of the cabarets of 1920’s Berlin, just as much as the traveling medicine shows of the rural south. It is filled with rags, ballads, waltzes, classic honky tonk and original music, as well as magic, sleight of hand and musings on the state of our lives in these modern times. Wes L’Anglois and Justin Amaral will be performing alongside Fats & Kristi.
The public is invited to join us in this celebration as we welcome fall to the 6th Street District.
