Sportsplex Named KRPS Best Facility
Less than a year into its existence, the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex Hopkinsville is already receiving statewide recognition.
During the closing ceremonies of the Kentucky Parks and Recreation Society State Conference on Friday morning at Lake Barkley Resort State Park, the Sportsplex was presented the Class 3 Facility Award, which is given to an indoor or outdoor facility that offers a unique enhancement to the quality of life in the field of recreation and leisure services. Eligible facilities are divided into classes based on number of full-time employees.
In its 10 months of operation, the Sportsplex has welcomed approximately 80,000 visitors, generated over $250,000 in revenue and generated tens of thousands of sports tourism dollars for the local economy. Several members of the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department were present Friday to accept the award, including Sportsplex Facility Coordinator Tony Henson, City of Hopkinsville Marketing/Events Coordinator Chris Jung and Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman.
Sen. Whitney Westerfield, who was invited as the keynote speaker during the final KRPS session of the 2019 State Conference and Trade Show, was also on-hand for the presentation, as was Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble.
The Sportsplex will celebrate its 10-month anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. For more information on the facility, visit www.HopkinsvilleSportsplex.com or follow @HopSportsplex on social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
