City Pledges Support for Ebonite Employees

The city learned today that Ebonite International, Inc., would be closing its doors via a letter from the company. The abrupt closure, without prior notice to employees, was announced earlier this afternoon. “We are surprised to hear of the closing of Ebonite and the decision to terminate operations in Hopkinsville. We have been proud to be the home of Ebonite and their outstanding workforce. Ebonite will forever be a part of our rich history,” said Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks.

City and county officials are working closely with the West Kentucky Workforce Board to provide help and assistance to affected workers. While any business disruption is difficult, the mayor stressed that Ebonite employees are not alone and pledged the community will continue to work together.

“We pray for the employees and families impacted by this decision. Several local agencies have already initiated action to assist the Ebonite employees affected by this sudden announcement. Our office will share more information as it becomes available.  We hope for a quick transition for those looking for work,” said Hendricks.
