Christian County to be Represented in 2019 Governor's Inauguration Parade

World War II Veteran to be Escorted in Frankfort

A World War II veteran will represent Christian County in the Governor’s Parade during the 61st Inauguration in the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Tuesday, December 10th in Frankfort.

Hopkinsville native Elwood Richardson will be riding in the unit, driven by Hopkinsville Christian County Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Brooke Jung.

“We are so pleased to have a unit in this year’s Governor’s Parade,” said Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble. “This is a great representation of our community and our dedication to all the soldiers in Christian County, and serving at Fort Campbell.”

Signage will adorn the vehicle, denoting Hopkinsville, Oak Grove, Fort Campbell and Christian County. Magnets will also be placed on the car to recognize and honor the WWII veteran aboard.

“I am so excited for our veterans to be recognized like this,” said Lela Hale, Coordinator of Honor Flight Bluegrass. “In October, we went to D.C. for the Honor Flight and had a great time. This is such a great opportunity to thank one of our incredible local heroes.”

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. ET in downtown Frankfort, where the route will travel up Capital Avenue towards Kentucky’s Capitol. Over 80 units will participate in the parade, representing communities across the commonwealth.

“We love the opportunity to represent Christian County during such a significant event,” Jung said. “We are looking forward to sharing our community pride and appreciation of our military on such a large stage.”
