Mayor Hendricks to Join Nationwide Effort to Recognize Impact of National Service

On April 7, Hopkinsville Mayor Carter M. Hendricks will celebrate joining more than 2,630 mayors across the country in recognition of the impact of AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and all volunteers on city challenges.

A proclamation will be presented during the PACS-sponsored public event beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the PACS Christian County Senior Center highlighting local volunteers.

The nation’s mayors are increasingly turning to national service and volunteerism as a cost effective and community engaging strategy to address city challenges at a time of fiscal constraint. Thousands of volunteer hours are served annually here in Hopkinsville and Christian County.

The Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service is a national bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service in cities, to thank those who serve, and to encourage citizens to give back to their communities.

Mayor Hendricks thanks all citizens who currently volunteer and invites others to plug in to our community through service as a volunteer.  “As an AmeriCorps Alum and community volunteer, I recognize the value and appreciate the impact of volunteers across this community and country. Hopkinsville and Christian County are made stronger because of the countless contributions of those who serve.  I encourage all residents to volunteer your time and talent to help improve our community."

The Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the National League of Cities, and Cities of Service. For more information, visit
