Hopkinsville Selected as a Play Ball City
The City of Hopkinsville will be participating in the MLB’s Play Ball Summer Promotional Campaign. Hopkinsville is one of the 115 cities throughout the country that are participating in this initiative to promote baseball and softball to the youth.
The first event in conjunction with the promotion is “Caps On Day” slated for April 4. Mayor Carter Hendricks and representatives from baseball and softball teams throughout the community will gather for a proclamation signing on that date, the opening day for Major League Baseball.
Play Ball is a joint program from MLB and United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) that focuses on the fun nature of baseball and encourages widespread participation in baseball-related activities. One of the primary goals of the Play Ball program is to reach out to kids who don’t normally place baseball or softball. The Play Ball program hopes to spark an interest in the sport for kids in the Hopkinsville community.
“As a sports enthusiast and supporter of the Hoptown Hoppers, I encourage all residents to get involved in physical activity and especially the great game of baseball/softball. Go hoppers!” Mayor Carter Hendricks stated earlier this week.
The City of Hopkinsville and the Hopkinsville Division of Parks and Recreation will work together to implement the initiative by incorporating baseball and softball activities into promotional events throughout the summer.
