KY USSSA State Tournament Overcomes Region's Rain Challenges at Tie Breaker
When the action finally wrapped up on Sunday afternoon the overall championship and accompanying rings went to the Christian County Cubs 16-6 over Caldwell County in the 8-under division; Hopkins County Cobras 6-5 over the HCCYL Stars in the 10-under division; and to the Trigg County All-Stars 18-10 over the Hopkins County Cobras in the 12-under division. Consolation bracket winners were (8-under) Hopkins County over Caldwell County Gold, (10-under) Crittenden County over Caldwell County; and (12-under) Lyon County over HCCYL Stars.
Parks and Recreation officials estimated over 1,000 people attended the championship tournament.
This weekend’s tournament was significant because the event was organized and hosted in-house by the Hopkinsville Division of Parks and Recreation. The Tie Breaker Complex is home to around 19 tournament each summer, but most are conducted by outside promoters. Parks and Recreation is hosting one other local tournament July 29-31 when the Border Wars Classic is held at Tie Breaker.
A $5 per day gate fee will be charged throughout the weekend to offset tournament expenses. Kids 7-under are free. Game schedules for each age division can be viewed at www.hoptownrec.com. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 270-887-4290.
