Brooke Jung Contracted for Key Role in Hopkinsville's 2017 Solar Eclipse Preparations
The City of Hopkinsville took another important step in 2017 North American Solar Eclipse planning with the addition of Brooke Jung in a contract position and key role helping the community plan and organize for the international astronomy event. Jung joins the Eclipse Team at Hopkinsville’s Division of Parks and Recreation after nearly two years as Director of Marketing and Events for the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.
The Eclipse coordinator is funded jointly by the City of Hopkinsville and Christian County Fiscal Court, is a one-year commitment that offers Jung the opportunity to serve in a leadership position for a once-in-a-lifetime event. Jung will focus primarily on preparation, logistics, publicity and marketing for August 21, 2017, when Hopkinsville grabs the international spotlight for two minutes and 40 seconds as the “point of greatest eclipse” along the North American Solar Eclipse path that runs northwest to southeast across the United States.
A Louisville native, Jung brings career event and marketing experience ranging from the Kentucky Derby to Chicago Bears football games. With a deeply rooted background in tourism, Jung has held positions at both the Louisville Sports Commission and the Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is excited to promote Hopkinsville during the worldwide astronomical event.
“I am ecstatic to work with Team Hopkinsville to showcase our city and county to the world as we welcome thousands of tourists to our great community for this unprecedented event next August,” Jung said. “I am anxious to utilize my skills on an event of this magnitude that will put Hopkinsville front and center for the world to see as we count down to the 2017 Solar Eclipse Day.”
Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks is particularly excited that Jung has accepted the invitation to play a key role in community Eclipse preparations.
"We are thrilled to move forward with our Eclipse planning efforts and are confident Brooke Jung is the perfect consultant to help Team Hopkinsville. Her energy, enthusiasm, and experience will be vital as we roll out the red carpet for Eclipse chasers from all over the world," Hendricks said.
Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Tab Brockman, is pleased that someone with Jung’s unique qualifications was already in Hopkinsville, cutting down the learning curve.
“The job of working out all of the local pieces of the Solar Eclipse planning is extraordinary,” said Brockman. “And, we’re just fortunate to have someone with Brooke’s extraordinary experience to lead Solar Eclipse planning with our outstanding staff over the next 12 months. It’s great that she knows the community so well and can hit the ground running right away.”Jung will assume the duties of local Solar Eclipse coordination on September 6, 350 days from the actual day of the North American Solar Eclipse.
