The City of Hopkinsville invites local residents to consider careers as Emergency Medical Technicians.  To help interested individuals afford the requisite training, the city is offering to waive the $500 course tuition for up to twenty people.  Applicants would remain responsible for covering costs associated with their books, CPR training, and post-course testing.

Human Resources Officer Kenny Grabara noted, “The initiative aims to recruit non-traditional applicants – those who have an interest in serving the community in this capacity but haven’t had the resources to fully fund the training.”  He added, “While the program does not guarantee employment, its successful completion qualifies applicants for entry-level positions at Hopkinsville Fire Department and other ambulance services in the region.”

Classes, which run 24 weeks, are held Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 until 9:30pm beginning September 23, 2013, through March 18, 2014.

To be program eligible, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Provide proof of Hopkinsville residency;
  • Have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Understand, read, speak, and write English with at least a ninth grade education comprehension and performance level;
  • Have no felony convictions; and
  • Hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Completed applications must be received no later than 4pm on Friday, September 13 by email to kgrabara@hopkinsvilleky.us or at:
