13th Annual Citizen's Police Academy Set For March 2014

THE HOPKINSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE CONDUCTING ITS THIRTEENTH ANNUAL CITIZEN’S POLICE ACADEMY BEGINNING THURSDAY MARCH 6, 2014.

THE SEVEN WEEK LONG COURSE HIGHLIGHTS THE ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT AND GIVES THE PUBLIC A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT THE DEPARTMENT DOES ON A DAILY BASIS. THE CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT, WHICH GIVES THE CLASS MEMBERS A CHANCE TO MEET OFFICERS IN A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT.

ALL WEEKLY CLASSES ARE SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY EVENINGS AND WILL BEGIN AT 6:00 PM. TOPICS COVERED WILL INCLUDE PATROL, INVESTIGATIONS, K-9 DEMONSTRATIONS, AND FIREARMS TRAINING, JUST TO NAME A FEW. EACH CLASS PARTICIPANT MAY ALSO ATTEND A SATURDAY LIVE FIRE EXERCISE AT THE DEPARTMENT’S FIREARMS RANGE.  THE CLASS CULMINATES WITH A GRADUATION CEREMONY AND DINNER, WITH CERTIFICATES AWARDED TO ALL THAT COMPLETE THE COURSE.

IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN BEING A MEMBER OF THIS THIRTEENTH CLASS, APPLICATIONS CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE HOPKINSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ON WEST 1ST STREET BEGINNING THURSDAY JANUARY 9TH. APPLICATIONS CAN ALSO BE DOWNLOADED HERE. APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT UNTIL MONDAY MARCH 3, 2014. A BRIEF BACKGROUND CHECK WILL BE CONDUCTED ON EACH APPLICANT AND EACH CLASS MEMBER WILL BE NOTIFIED OF HIS/HER SELECTION. THE ACADEMY IS LIMITED TO TWENTY (20) STUDENTS AND ALL STUDENTS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
