Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp announced today the timeline for transition of city administrative services to its new downtown location.  Mayor Kemp noted, “We are excited to see this project come to reality – excited for what it means for the dedicated men and women of HPD and excited about its positive impact on downtown revitalization efforts.”

City officials noted the following move timeline has been developed so as to minimize service interruptions to the public.

  • Thu, August 21 - Move begins; Finance & CDS offices remain open at 101 N Main St
  • Fri, August 22 - City admin offices closed; CDS permitting available by calling (270) 887-4285
  • Mon, August 25 - City admin offices reopen at new downtown location

City Council and related committee meetings will be held and televised as regularly scheduled.  A dedication, ribbon cutting, and public tours are slated for Tuesday, September 16 at 4:30pm.

Located at 715 South Virginia Street, the Hopkinsville Municipal Center will include offices of City Administration (Mayor, City Administrative Officer, City Clerk, Information Technology, Human Resources, Finance) and the Hopkinsville Human Relations Commission.

Offices for Community & Development Services, including the Renaissance Main Street Program, will be located through the 710 South Main Street building entrance.

Authorized by Hopkinsville City Council in the fall of 2012, the $8.2 million investment to relocate city hall creates improved access to over 100 free public parking spaces in the heart of downtown.  The project also facilitates the renovation of Lackey Municipal Building to house new police department headquarters, thereby, replacing the 47-year old police main station with a facility suitable for 21st century policing, high caliber officer recruitment, and training.  Renovation construction for the new police headquarters is scheduled to begin in the coming months.
