Trash for Cash Program Now Underway

The Trash for Cash program has officially opened for 2015. Registration Packets may be downloaded here or picked up at the Public Works Complex located at 705 North Main Street. The “Trash for Cash” Cleanup Program will run from May thru October 31st, 2015 or until the required 158 miles are completed.

The Trash for Cash Program is funded by a litter abatement grant through the City of Hopkinsville. The mission of this program is to promote Public Environmental Awareness by: Reducing Litter, Encouraging Recycling Efforts and continuing to create a unique sense of Pride in our City. This program is designed for Non-Profit groups such as: schools, churches, civic groups and other community organization groups.

Other Organizations and Businesses that are not a non-profit organization may qualify to participate, if they choose to participate by donating their Trash for Cash cleanup proceeds to their favorite NON–PROFIT ORGANIZATION. This is a great opportunity to help a NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION reach their goal.

This program allows participants to discover first-hand, the importance and great service they can accomplish through hands-on experience and education of achieving a “litter free” city to the young and old for the Hopkinsville-Christian County community.  

Ms. Charles stated “I hope everyone will take this opportunity to be responsible and be aware of the senseless littering that is done in our community.  We can all help by volunteering our time, refrain from throwing items from our cars, keep a trash bag in the car at all times and educate our children on the dangers that litter can cause. We strive for a clean, safe and healthy environment and wish this for our children and future generations. Let’s make this happen as a Community Who Cares!”

Registration Packets may be picked up and returned to the Hopkinsville Public Works Complex located at 705 North Main Street between the hours of 8:00-4:00 PM – Monday thru Friday. The PAL Coordinator will then contact the group to set a cleanup date. Tax identification numbers for all non-profit groups are required in order to participate in the Trash for Cash program. Groups may continue to pick up packet forms to schedule a cleanup date through October or until required miles are completed.

For every mile of city streets cleaned $75.00 will be awarded. There is no limit on how many times a group can participate in the program. Each cleanup will require a new packet to be filled out. The Trash for Cash goal is to reach 158 miles of city cleaned streets. Sign up soon to insure a cleanup date.
