Road Reminders During Sewer Main Upgrades

traffic alert icon
Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks thanks the public for its patience and reminds motorists to exercise caution during important sanitary sewer system replacement work that continues throughout the city.  Mayor Hendricks said, “We understand the inconvenience this work temporarily brings to our neighborhoods and motorists, and we thank HWEA and its contractors as they strive to mitigate the impact of the work during this process.”  He added, “We all look forward to enjoying these important infrastructure improvements once they are completed as well as smooth driving conditions.”

HWEA President & CEO Derrick Watson agreed and explained “Our contractors are making every effort to minimize interruptions to the public.”  He added, “Some of these street closures may create dust and uneven roadways which are unavoidable due to the nature of the construction; however, we want neighborhood residents to rest assured that these repairs will be made when warmer weather allows for asphalt paving to begin later this spring.”

In the meantime, trenched roadways will be backfilled as appropriate for the convenience of the public.  Motorists are thanked for their patience and reminded to:

  • Exercise caution by slowing down when driving through construction areas.
  • Be prepared for uneven roads.
  • Eliminate distractions while behind the wheel.
