The Hopkinsville Inner City Community Housing Development Organization, Inc. (HICCHDO) is hosting an open house for their first inner-city housing development on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 1410 Cherry Street within the Canton Pike Neighborhood.        HICCHDO Chairman Janet Calhoun invites the public to the open house and to tour the duplex located at the intersection of W. 15th Street and Cherry Street.  The HICCHDO is a not-for-profit community housing development organization with the purpose of providing and developing decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable housing to low-and-moderate income persons.  Additionally, the organization is formed as a charitable and educational entity to support and assist with the ongoing efforts of the Christian County/Hopkinsville Development Corporation (LDC) to prevent or eliminate slums and blight as well as promote economic development and neighborhood revitalization.  The HICCHDO is proud to announce the successful completion of their first housing development in the inner-city.

The development is a collaboration between the HICCHDO, LDC, Hopkinsville and Christian County Landbank Authority, Community and Development Services (CDS), and the City of Hopkinsville. Local financing is being provided by United Southern Bank and the Inner City REZ program.  As a developer, the HICCHDO utilized local incentives available for new construction.  Each energy efficient unit is a spacious 973 square feet, 2 bedrooms, and 1 ½ baths.

HICCHDO Chairman Janet Calhoun stated, “We are thrilled to welcome the public to our open house.  We look forward to partnering with our community’s organizations again to continue our goal to revitalize and provide additional affordable housing opportunities for the residents of Hopkinsville.”

The HICCHDO would like to thank everyone involved and hopes this success story will blossom into several more in the future.  If you are interested in learning more about the mission of the Hopkinsville Inner City Community Housing Development Organization, the Hopkinsville and Christian County Landbank Authority, the Christian County/Hopkinsville Development Corporation, or the incentives available through the Inner-City REZ Program, you may contact the offices of Community and Development Services at (270) 887-4285 or visit our website at http://www.comdev-services.com.
