As Council members, youth from diverse backgrounds are offered the opportunity to serve as advisors to city officials. This youth initiative has been the conduit to help reveal to other committees, organizations and boards within the community the importance of youth voice to be included at the decision making table. Former MYCity members have even served on important advisory boards such as the Sports Tourism Committee and Human Relations Commission. Council members have also volunteered in numerous capacities and events throughout the community.
MYCity Coordinator Idalia Luna noted, “MYCity was created to elevate youth voice and contributions to City of Hopkinsville. This council provides young people a unique opportunity to be drivers of their own ideas and facilitators in current topics within our city.”
High school juniors and seniors from Christian County public, private and home schools are invited to serve on the twenty-seat council or get involved with council-led projects.
