Mayor Carter Hendricks announced today that a groundbreaking for Hopkinsville’s skate park will be held Tuesday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the home of the new facility to be located near the corner of Thomas Street and Iris Drive (at the old Kiwanis pool site behind the Thomas Street Recreation Center near the Western Kentucky Fairgrounds). Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
Mayor Hendricks stated, “We are truly excited about making yet another investment in the health and quality of life of our young people and those young at heart.” He added, “This site has been designed to draw local residents and area visitors alike for years to come. As a longtime Kiwanian, we are also excited to have worked with Kiwanis to ensure the site is suitable for a future Soap Box Derby track.”
Authorized by a Hopkinsville City Council budget amendment, the $450,000 recreational development will feature an approximately 10,000 square foot facility including seating, shade, and amenities designed to accommodate all levels of skaters.
