The 2016 Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County class announced Monday that their community development project, ArtHop Benches will serve a multitude of purposes within the community. The benches will provide necessary seating at five transit stops around Hopkinsville providing those waiting for the bus a place to sit.
Local artists will be asked annually to submit a design that that they would like to execute on one of the five benches, bringing the annual theme to life and adding beauty to the area that they are placed along the transit route. This year’s theme will be the Solar Eclipse, with the intention of the benches remaining in their location through August 21, 2017. Additionally, these benches will serve as a fundraiser for the Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center as an added source of income for future years.
Each bench will have a corporate sponsor that will decide which artist’s submission they would like to choose for their bench design. If an artist’s design is chosen, that artist will receive a $50 Visa card and their name displayed on the bench’s plaque along with the bench sponsor. The selected artists will then have until Friday, June 10th to execute their proposed design on the bench they are provided. The inaugural benches will be unveiled on Friday, June 17th. Artists are asked to submit their Solar Eclipse designs on the attached bench rendering by Friday, May 27, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
The 2016 Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County Class would like to thank ProBuild for their partnership in this project, as well as Jeff Putty for being the exclusive bench builder for the initial benches.
