Project Playground Fundraising Efforts Take Shape

Highly coveted “store fronts” let out to bid in a silent auction

The organizers of Project Playground: Kid Designed, Community Built have created a sealed-bid format to auction off three highly visible components of the new playground to be built at the North Drive Recreation Park this spring.  Three “store fronts” are available to businesses or organizations that wish to participate in the fundraising efforts of this community’s playground.  These virtual storefronts will be painted by local artists on specified portions of the playground walls after construction of the playground April 30 through May 4, 2008, and will be an exact representation of the winning businesses’ exteriors.

A minimum bid of $500 per “store front” is being requested by the Project Playground steering committee.  The bids will be accepted until noon on Saturday, March 1, 2008.  Bids can be mailed to Project Playground, PO Box 743, Hopkinsville, KY 42241-0743, or hand-delivered to the Project Playground booth at the Home Builders Association of Hopkinsville Home Show at the James E. Bruce Convention Center.

The bids must be in writing with the organization’s name, address, phone number, contact name, authorized signature and bid amount.  If hand-delivered to the Project Playground booth at the Home Show, the bid should arrive no later than noon on March 1, 2008 and should be in a sealed envelope addressed to Project Playground Store Front Bid.  This is a silent auction, so no information will be given out before March 1, 2008, regarding the bids received.

Through the efforts begun by the 2008 Hopkinsville/Christian County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, the organizers of Project Playground: Kid Designed, Community Built are joining hands to provide a state-of-the-art playground not only for the children of Hopkinsville, but also for children throughout the area.  What makes this project unique is the playground has been designed by the children and will be built by the community.  The entire community will help with fundraising and supplying materials, tools, and labor to build the playground at the North Drive Recreation Park in Hopkinsville.  The build will take place in only five days: April 30 through May 4, 2008!
