In 2001, the Pennyrile Rail Trail Foundation was formed in support of the idea of creating a Greenway. The belief of the Foundation was: “The abandoned Ft Campbell rail spur will make a wonderful linear park that will provide cost effective and safe recreation. These facilities are popular with all age groups and require very little maintenance.”
Phase 1, which is now complete, measures over 5K or 3.15 miles (10.14K or 6.3 miles round trip) from the existing Riverwalk to Pardue Lane. There are trailheads with parking, landscaping, information, and restrooms.
In the future, there are plans for two more phases, with mileage totaling more than 15 miles of converted railways.
The trailheads are at the following locations/addresses:
Downtown Renaissance Walk @ the HPD 112 W 1st Street
Downtown Renaissance Walk @ the intersection of Riverfront Drive & W 2nd Street
Downtown Renaissance Walk @ the Little River Park 711 Bethel Street
