REKFest Skateboard Contest Set for May 19th

The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department and the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club will be hosting the Second Annual REKFest skateboard contest at the Hopkinsville Skatepark this Saturday (May 19). There will be a skateboard competition, music and food truck at the park, located adjacent to the Thomas Street Rec Center.

At this event, skateboarders will be able to show off their best skills and compete for prizes. There will be two separate divisions, so all types of skills and talent will be seen throughout the competition. The kids division will begin at noon, followed by the adult division around 2:00pm.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says, “We are really looking forward to our second REKFest. We have had a number of calls about this event, and we are very excited to be attracting skaters throughout the region. Skater and event director Tyler Graddy says, “I am so excited about this event! The skating community is even more ecstatic than I am. Everyone has been counting down the days since last year, and it looks like we will have a much larger turnout than the already large turnout the year before.”

Skateboarders can register for the competition until Friday at noon by visiting the Parks and Rec website (, in person at the Parks and Recreation offices at 2600 Thomas Street, or at the event. Skateboarders will be charged a $10 entry fee, or pay a $15 entry fee that includes a t-shirt. REKfest shirts can also be ordered for $12 for those not competing. The event benefits the Boys and Girls Club, so donations will be accepted at the event.
