Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp to Bid Farewell

The City of Hopkinsville will host a farewell reception in honor of Mayor Dan Kemp at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16 at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, 715 South Virginia Street. The program will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The public is welcomed to attend.

During his eight-year tenure, Mayor Kemp has championed a variety of programs for:

J. Daniel Kemp was elected Mayor of the City of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 2006 and re- elected in 2010. He served as a private practice attorney for over thirty years, from 1975 to 2006, where he handled criminal and civil cases as well as business and real estate matters. Mayor Kemp served four years in the United States Army from 1971 to 1975 as a JAG Officer and held the rank of Captain. He also served on Hopkinsville City Council from 1997-1998. Mayor Kemp holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and History from Murray State University and a Law Degree from the University of Kentucky. He is married to Henrietta Kemp, who is a retired educator and active community volunteer. They have five children and six grandchildren.

During his time as mayor, he has served as a member of the Executive Board of the Kentucky League of Cities, the Kentucky Commercial Mobile Radio System Board which oversees 911 emergency communications, Pennyrile Area Development District Board, Pennyrile Allied Community Services Board, Jennie Stuart Medical Center Board, Minority Economic Development Initiative of Western Kentucky Board, and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce Board. He previously served on the boards of many charitable and civic organizations including Rotary Club, United Way (Pennyrile Campaign co-chair in 2012), Hopkinsville/Christian County Conference Center Corporation, Pennyroyal Arts Council, and the Jaycees. He has also served as Finance Chair, Staff Parrish Relations Committee Chair, Chairman of the Board, and member of the Adult Choir at First United Methodist Church.
