City’s Excellence in Financial Reporting Recognized for 27th Year Straight

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch warmly congratulated the city’s Finance Division led by Chief Financial Officer/CPA Robert Martin and Comptroller Melissa Clayton as the group was awarded another coveted Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 27th year straight. 

Mayor Lynch remarked, “Having a steadfast commitment to diligent management of taxpayer funds is at the core of delivering strong public services.”  He added, “Our finance team takes that responsibility seriously and once again have been deservingly recognized for their phenomenal tradition of excellence in fiscal management and financial reporting. This is a real testament to their ongoing dedication and professionalism.”

Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the US and Canada (GFOA), a Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.  Its continued attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the city’s Finance Division and its management.

Award Background

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 21,000 government finance professionals throughout the country.  Martin currently serves as Treasurer of the Kentucky GFOA Chapter.

Hopkinsville’s latest distinction is for the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020.  The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential user groups to read the report.
