Recycling Art Contest Designs Unveiled

Hopkinsville Solid Waste Authority General Manager Tony Sicari invites the community to the exciting unveiling of artwork from the group’s first design challenge which inspired fresh, new looks for three Hopkinsville recycling containers.  The unveiling will be held on Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club located at 1600 Walnut Street.  Members of the public are encouraged to attend and be among the first to use the new containers.

Launched earlier this month, the design contest encouraged artists to submit work that beautifies the city and reflects the themes of recycling and going green.  In addition to designing artwork for the new bins, contestants also provided the labor to have the receptacles painted.

Winning container designs feature the work of three local artists:

  1. Juan Sanchez: Grand Prize Winner - $1,000
  2. Madison Wallace: Second Prize Winner - $500
  3. Montreale Jones: Third Prize Winner - $300

After the ceremony, a new container will be stationed at Ruff Park on North Drive and the corner of South Clay and 5th Streets, while the third will remain at the Boys & Girls Club.  Containers formerly found on Canton Street and Lafayette Road have been relocated to the Stadium of Champions and Thomas Street Recreation Center.

As the public begins to use the new bins, they are reminded what is appropriate to place in a container.  Also, always remember not to leave any items outside a recycling bin.
