Public Warned of Dangerous Synthetic Drug

Hopkinsville Police Chief Clayton Sumner alerts the public to a serious concern related to what appears to be the use of a new synthetic drug or a drug such as marijuana that has been laced with some foreign substance.  The drug is circulating throughout this area and those who use it are experiencing serious medical complications.

Since Thursday, November 12, 2015, officers of the Hopkinsville Police Department have noticed an extremely high increase in individuals exhibiting signs similar to psychotic episodes after using the drug. These individuals are often lethargic and appear to be going in and out of consciousness.  At times and without warning, they then become aggressive and out of control.  Jennie Stuart Medical Center has reported approximately a dozen individuals displaying this type of behavior this weekend alone.

While HPD continues to actively search for the sources of this concern, we wish to alert the public of this very serious danger.

If you or someone you know partakes in this type activity, please share this information with them in hopes that they will avoid this substance.  With this announcement the Hopkinsville Police Department in no way condones the use of any illegal substance.  However, every effort is being made to reduce the risk of serious injury to members of our community at risk of coming into contact with it.

For additional information, please do not hesitate to call (270) 890-1300 or dial 911 in the event of an emergency.
