Job Openings at Community and Development Services (CDS) 

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Planning Commission, dba Community and Development Services (CDS) is seeking qualified Planners to fill several vacancies.  Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky is a community of approximately 32,000 residents in the City and over 78,000 residents in the County.  Located in Western Kentucky, Christian County is the home of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky which is located on the Tennessee/Kentucky state line.  Only a twenty five (25) minute drive to Lake Barkley and a little over an hour from Nashville, Tennessee, Hopkinsville offers a wide variety of opportunities for individuals wanting a career in Planning.  Community and Development Services is a diverse organization responsible for Planning, Community Development, Code Enforcement, Downtown Revitalization, GIS, Stormwater Management, etc.  Staffing levels range from 18-22.  CDS has vacancies for the following positions:

  1. Planner II

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field with at least three (3) years’ experience or a Master’s Degree in Planning or related field with at least one (1) year of experience.  Starting salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 with competitive fringe benefits.

  1. Planner I

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field.  Starting salary range is $30,000 to $40,000 with competitive fringe benefits.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I

Community and Development Services has an opening for an entry level code enforcement position.  The position requires a B.S. degree in Planning, Industrial Arts, Engineering or related field, or a High School degree plus three (3) years experience in construction, management, or planning.  The position will be responsible for the enforcement of land use codes and the Kentucky Building Code.  The salary is based on education and experience.  There is a competitive fringe package available.  Interested applicants should apply by submitting a cover letter, resume and three (3) letters of reference on or before May 22, 2021 addressed to: Community and Development Services, P.O. ACCOUNTING CLERK
$34,921 salary minimum

Prepare, analyze, & process all accounts payable using a computerized accounting system for the City and various related agencies.  Also, prepare various financial reports for internal & external users.  Requires a high school diploma/GED, three (3) years’ experience in the accounting field, two (2) years’ experience using spreadsheets, and demonstrable knowledge of accounts payable systems. Associate’s degree in Accounting and experience in public accounting desired.  Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of finance and accounting principles may be considered.

911 / EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATOR TRAINEE
$28,552 starting salary

Operate multi-line phone system, answer 911 emergency telephone calls, and dispatch calls to responding field units. Must have high school diploma or equivalent, be 18 years of age or older, type 35 WPM, possess strong verbal/written skills, & multi-task in a high stress environment.  Applicants are subject to a background investigation, suitability screening test, polygraph, drug test and successfully complete a 4 week training course at the Dept. of Criminal Justice Training/Eastern KY University in Richmond, KY.  Prior public safety training/experience desired.

THE CITY OF HOPKINSVILLE
POLICE OFFICER (LATERAL)
$42,171-$55,360 salary range + $4,000 state incentive

Must be a KY certified Police Officer or approved by the Department of Criminal Justice for transferable out-of-state police certification credentials. Additional information/documents/testing may be required as successful applicants continue thru the recruitment process. An extensive background investigation will be performed.  

Shift schedule rotates days/evening shifts with 4-ten hour work weeks with every other weekend off. Excellent benefits include health, dental, vision, & life insurance. 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 8 floating holidays per year are offered.  Certified Police Officers may be eligible for a $9,000 hiring incentive.
